August 2023 News Update.
Getting back to work, exciting travels and embracing pink!
Health news - getting back to sewing
Hello dear friend! It's been a long four (ish) months since my arms suddenly stopped working and it's been a real slog to get pain free and mobile again. I'm happy to say that (despite the reason not being what we originally thought it was - it's a very long , bizarre story for another time) with treatment and physio I've now got use of both arms and am gaining strength slowly. I'm spending short periods sewing and making, which is a relief and a huge, happy step forward from having to be dressed and fed just a few months ago!
Slow stitching
Recovery is lending itself to slow stitching, which has been good for the mind and gentle on the body. Happily this means that I've been able to work more on the boro inspired textile pieces that I had already started plus some new ideas. I'll write a separate update on the tiny, indigo boro style piece very soon.
Seeing Pink
Shortly before I became incapacitated, I started work on some pink, boro style pieces specifically to use in some men's accessory projects - very Harry Styles chic. Making good use of some never worn but damaged cerise linen trousers found at the back of my wardrobe, some Japanese and other small fabric scraps, I think it's looking pretty stunning with the gorgeous variegated sashiko thread from Etsy seller, Contedefeesstudio. What I had absolutely NO clue about was the then upcoming Barbie film. How did I not know? I really took my eye off the ball there!
Now my pink stitching will either be seen as insightful or gratuitously band-wagon jumping hahaha! In any case, I need to get a move on and finish them before the pink bubble pops! Same goes for some Scandi style, screen printed pink linen looking at me from my sewing table that is waiting to be stitched into bag linings along with the printing process video edited and added to the blog. I really hope the pink trend doesn't fade too fast, even though I'm more of a black than pink kind of lass! What was I thinking with those magenta trousers in the first place?!
Japan Trip
I'm excited that, all being well, I'll be off on a Japan trip again in the near future. Before the pandemic I was lucky enough to go frequently and this will be my first visit in almost three and a half years. I'm looking forward to catching up with old friends, shopping for fabrics, notions and stationery (i'm not the only stationery obsessed person am I?) and being generally inspired by the places, colours and culture. And Tokyo Disneyland! Who says you have to be a child to find joy in Disney?!
We're hiring a car and doing a bit of a road trip in Kyushu to visit some of the pottery towns that we haven't been to before - plus a cheeky visit to our favourite cafe in Arita (an area well known for its ceramics) - which I wrote about some time ago here. Food will feature heavily I'm sure, although I think I need a few more physio sessions to get handy with chopsticks again!

Goldfish brain
Now things are improving, I'm also happy that I can concentrate a little longer than a goldfish and am able to start working on this blog again - slowly though - very, very slowly. So stick with me! I appreciate your support and hope that we can continue our creative journey together.
Until soon x
