2023 colour trends: Yellow Ochre

Welcome to part two of my series summarising 2023 colour trends!

Yellow Ochre, referred to in some trend reports as Honeycomb, is a joyful hue that seems to have been gaining popularity over the last few years. It straddles the current, popular palette of comforting neutrals and gives a cheeky nod to the retro, 70's aesthetic that has been recently gaining traction.

This colour has been marked for special attention in 2023 by artisan marketplaces Etsy and Folksy as a growing trend that is unlikely to fizzle out any time soon. Hues of Yellow Ochre have also been given the nod by both fashion trend reports and the Pantone colour experts with its spectra being seen in the Autumn/Winter 23/24 London and New York Fashion Reports partnered with spicy tones in addition to eye-popping persimmon, coral, lilac and acid greens.

With its warm and lustrous tone rooted in nature, it is a grounding colour that invokes solidity and strength, hope and happiness. It works well with cool or warm palettes and couples with the other trends for 2023 and beyond beautifully. Moving into 2024 trends, already I am seeing reference to Yellow Ochre sitting alongside inclusive, earthy rusts and browns; indeed, the rust colour palette is already growing in demand for wedding themes and gender neutral, pastel-alternative colours are immensely popular for baby showers, clothes and nursery décor.

Yellow Ochre is a versatile colour that can be applied across many applications in art design, fashion and home. If, like me, you design or hand make items for others, incorporating a hint of Honeycomb may be something to seriously consider for the coming months if not years.
