2023 colour trends: Magenta

For those of you, like me, who immerse yourselves in creative arts for business or pleasure, you can't help but miss the (painter's) bucket-load of colour trends and palettes that come with the advent of a new year. Early 2023 has already been a total riot of colour.

Whether designing digital artwork or crafting hand made items for sale, incorporating these colours into products helps to generate relevance and desire, giving a helping hand to get ahead of the competition.

Magenta has swept in with a bold flourish, making a statement about strength, individuality, power and inclusivity. It has been branded as playful but assertive and suggested by the Pantone company, who named Viva Magenta as their colour of the year alongside a muted palette of khaki greens, greys, powder pinks and lilacs to totally show it off.

Other trending colours suggested by craft and design companies for early 2023 work well with Magenta and it is going to be exciting to see how the trend develops through design, fashion and products in the coming months; I'm already noticing splashes in mainstream media adverts and set design (anybody seen the accessories on the set of Saturday Kitchen here in the UK lately? The magenta espresso cups and small decorative accessories look stunning) - once you know you can't unsee it!
